Filling up time and space, and yet, so empty.
Visualize it: An intricate web of images and sounds, interconnected in myriads of ways, translated into Is and Isn't (0 and 1), spanning the world via miles and miles of interconnected wires, jumping from one computer to another. A virtual world created for our generation. So different than what it was 14 years ago, when I first met it. And now, such an indispensable part of our lives (or at least my life). Do you remember BitNet messages? BBS?
The previous two generations in my family (the Greek branch more than the American) saw many technological revolutions (as well as a couple of wars!). As a child, I thought there was nothing for us - we were born into an era of everything. And yet -
- More than anything, I miss the freedom of those days. Being 10 and being allowed to tell our mother "I'm going out" in the morning, coming back in the evening, and nobody worried about us.
